Ghana Federation of Disability Organisations Holds Advocacy Committee Meeting

Accra, Ghana – January 20, 2024 – The Ghana Federation of Disability Organisations (GFD) convened its Advocacy Committee meeting on January 18th, 2024, at the conference room of the Center for Democratic Development (CDD).

The advocacy committee is the governing body responsible for leading GFD’s advocacy efforts. The committee gathered to reflect on the year 2023 and to set priority advocacy issues for 2024. It also made efforts to address gaps identified in the advocacy work of the Federation.

Chairing the meeting, GFD President Mr. Joseph Atsu Hormadzi emphasized, among other issues, the urgency of expediting action on the reenactment of Act 715 and tackling unemployment through vigorous advocacy. He urged the committee members and GFD staff to put more effort into advocating for duty bearers to hasten the reenactment of the bill and implement other key commitments made in the past. He further commended GFD and the committee for their dedication to advocating for disability rights and inclusion in Ghana.

Among the esteemed attendees were, Mr. Joseph Atsu Hormadzi, President of GFD, Rita Kusi Kyeremaa, Executive Director of GFD, Juventus Dorinaa, Director of the Ghana National Association of the Deaf, r. Yaw Ofori Debrah, representing the Burn Survivors Foundation, and other prominent members from various Organizations of Persons with Disabilities (OPDs)
