Governance Structure

GFD has a 4-level governance structure. These levels are the Delegates Assembly, National Executive Council, Executive Board, and Secretariat. The Delegates Assembly is the highest decision-making body of the organisation. The Members of the Assembly are  the National Executive Council, Executive Board and representatives from member organisations as well as Associate members. The National Executive Council is made up of the Presidents and Women leaders of the member organisations as well as the Executive Board of GFD. The Executive Board is made up of seven (7) members including three (3) elected persons with disaiblities, three (3) appointed professionals and the Executive Director of GFD. The Executive Board oversees the strategic operations. The GFD operates a National secretariat which implements the strategic decisions and or recommendation of the organisation’s leadership, providing technical direction, developing and coordination of programmes and projects as well as institutional capacity strengthening. The secretariat manages the day-to-day functions of the organisations. 

The GFD works with strategic committees act on behalf of who provide technical inputs and support in delivering the organisation’s mandate. They are Advocacy, Gender, Finance, Resource mobilization and Employment committees. The committees are made up of representatives of member organisations and individual persons with expertise in relevant fields.

ADMINISTRATIVE MEMBERS                                                                    The administrative structure comprises the various personnel at the secretariat who run the day-to-day activities of the GFD. They include :

  • Executive Director
  • Programmes Team
  • Finance and Administrative team
  • Monitoring and Evaluation team
  • Volunteers/Interns

Ghana Federation of Disability Organisations (GFD), formerly known as Ghana Federation of the Disabled now, was established in 1987 as a national umbrella of organisations of persons with disabilities with the full legal status under the laws of Ghana
