NATIONAL SPOT CHECK ON THE 89TH LEAP PAYMENT CYCLE

From the second week of July 2024, the Government of Ghana commenced the 89th disbursement of social subsidies to three hundred and twenty-four thousand and seventy-three (324,073) beneficiary households nationwide through the Ministry of Gender, Children & Social Protection (MoGCSP).

The cash grants provided to households enrolled in the LEAP (Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty Programme) program saw a 100% increase from the 2023 figures. Therefore:

– One-Member Household: from GHȻ128.00 to GHȻ256.00,

– Two-Member Households: from GHȻ152.00 to GHȻ304.00,

– Three-Member Households: from GHȻ176.00 to GHȻ352.00,

– Four-Member Households: from GHȻ212.00 to GHȻ424.00.

The amount paid to a household is determined by the number of eligible household members. The categories of persons who make a household eligible are orphans and vulnerable children, elderly (65 years+) without support, persons with severe disabilities who cannot work, and pregnant women and mothers with infants under one year.

To carry out the monitoring exercise, MoGCSP formed teams and assigned them the task of compiling data on various indicators to track the program’s performance.

Additionally, the exercise allowed the Ministry to track payments and interact with beneficiaries to evaluate the impact of the program on their lives.

LEAP is a social cash transfer program for Ghana’s poorest households, aimed at alleviating poverty by fostering human capital development and smoothing consumption.
