Sightsavers and GFD Host Digital Accessibility Workshop for Persons with Disabilities.
In an effort to foster inclusivity and empower persons with disabilities, Sightsavers, in partnership with the Ghana Federation of Disability Organizations (GFD), organized a two-day digital accessibility workshop. The training, held on July 29th and 31st at the Fiesta Royale hotel, brought together organizations of persons with disabilities and relevant Civil Society Organizations (CSOs).
In order to establish an inclusive digital environment for all people with disabilities, the workshop provided registrants with the knowledge and skills they needed to solve critical issues at the forefront of digital accessibility. The conversations covered a wide range of topics, including:
Digital Accessibility: Participants delved into the significance of digital accessibility and explored practical approaches to ensuring digital content and platforms are easily accessible to individuals with disabilities.
ILO Self-Assessment Tool: The workshop featured an insightful session on the International Labour Organization (ILO) self-assessment tool for organizations. This tool enables benchmarking of a company’s inclusion performance and paves the way for enhanced disability-friendly workplaces.
HR Audit with Recruiters Checklist: Attendees gained valuable insights into conducting a Human Resources (HR) audit using the recruiters’ checklist, a pivotal resource in promoting equal employment opportunities for persons with disabilities.
Digital Accessibility Audit: Understanding the intricacies of accessibility audit processes and their significance in creating an inclusive digital environment was another crucial point of focus during the workshop.
igital accessibility is an important step in advancing equal opportunities and maximising the potential of people with disabilities in the digital age. With the information and resources learned at this session, organizations of persons with disabilities and CSOs will be well-positioned to make significant progress towards building inclusive digital eco-systems.
