Inclusivity in Agriculture: Ghana Federation of Disability Organisations Celebrates Farmers with Disabilities on National Farmers’ Day 2023

On the momentous occasion of the 39th National Farmers’ Day, the Ghana Federation of Disability Organisations (GFD) extends its heartfelt congratulations to all the hardworking farmers with disabilities across the country who are making valuable contributions to Ghana’s agricultural landscape.

Echoing the theme of this year’s celebration, “Delivering Smart Solutions for Sustainable Food Security and Resilience,” the GFD applauds the unwavering commitment of farmers with disabilities to ensuring food security for all Ghanaians. Despite facing numerous challenges, their dedication to agriculture serves as a testament to their determination to break barriers and contribute their quota to feeding the nation, themselves, and their families.

The GFD stands in solidarity with all farmers with disabilities, recognizing their invaluable contributions to Ghana’s agricultural sector. We commend their efforts to transcend physical and societal barriers, demonstrating that one’s impairment should not be a hindrance to what they can do for themselves and their communities.

From cultivating crops to rearing livestock, and participating in the agricultural value chain, persons with disabilities have defied societal expectations and exhibited exceptional skills and abilities in the agricultural sector. Their endeavors have not only provided them with a means of livelihood but have also played a significant role in enhancing food security and economic development in Ghana and their communities.

While these farmers with disabilities have demonstrated remarkable resilience, it is crucial to acknowledge the extensive support they require to ensure their continued profitability. Highlighting the areas where farmers with disabilities need assistance is paramount. By drawing attention to this critical aspect, we hope to advocate for assistance and inclusive policies that address the unique needs of these individuals.

By empowering farmers with disabilities, we invest in a more equitable and sustainable agricultural sector that benefits all Ghanaians. Together, we celebrate the achievements of farmers with disabilities and pledge our unwavering support as they continue to nourish our nation.

Once again, we say a joyous National Farmers’ Day to all Ghanaian farmers, especially those with disabilities!
